There’s a place near Metro Manila that is sort of isolated and somewhat disadvantaged area, located in Brgy. Sto. Niño, Tanay, Rizal. The place is perfect when you want to be alone or you want to spend time with your significant other where there is no cellphone signal (no call, text, and data), no electricity (except for solar powers), and you have no choice but to talk with each other. It is also a good place to go when you want to move on, stop yourself from stalking your ex or almost jowa na di natuloy. You can detoxify yourself from social media if it has been too toxic for you lately.
It wasn’t my first time to visit the place, I had a chance to render my service for a medical mission to their barangay; however, we were not able to fully enjoy what its nature has to offer.
How to Get There?
There is no public transportation going there, you need to rent a vehicle or bring your own. Ideally, it is best to bring a 4×4 vehicle with snorkel so it wouldn’t be a problem crossing the river. You read that ride, if you’re an adrenaline junkie, it would be fun to have a 4×4 vehicle. If you don’t have one, a jeepney would be fine. You just cross the river at your own risk or just leave you vehicle at the drop-off point.
The place has become famous because of its iconic bridge where Cardo Dalisay, of ABS-CBN’s primetime series FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, ran and crossed the bridge while he was being chased and shot by gunmen. It is also where you can find his home in the said series.
You need to hire guides from the barangay so you can proceed to the river, it costs ₱300 per guide for the whole day. You can reach up to the rock formations of the river where you can do cliff diving if you’re that kind of thrill seeker.
I was just invited to conduct a lecture regarding swift water that’s why we were wearing life vests and we have our own rubber boat. It is actually unnecessary because most of the time, the waters are just shallow.
If you plan to go an overnight, there are several transient houses you can rent that has their own solar power generator so you can charge your phone (that has no use except for its camera) and camera of course. Be sure to bring your own food or food to cook because the place is far from the marketplace and it would be difficult to find your necessities.
The place is bawal sa maarte.
